Headline Essentials

Headline Essentials

Do your article headlines GRAB attention, or do they whimper helplessly “please take pity and read me”?

According to the news industry, the average headline  will inspire only 200 people out of 1000 to read your ad or start reading your article.  If your headline is weak, you can cut your readers in half.  A strong, exciting headline can double the interest.

Consider that 70-80% of the response is generated in your subject line, so your success is largely dependent of your headline.  Even mediocre copy writing skills in your content will get more activity if your headline pulls them in.

You want to include 4 critical elements in your title to grab attention, and inspire action… which is to have the reader read your article.   So, you must start with a HUGE BANG!

Within 2-3 seconds your prospects decide whether to read your  message or pass by to the next: they scan for items of interest and leave the rest.

Here are four crucial  tips for writing your next “knock out”  headline for your network marketing business.

1. Your Headline Should Be The First Thing The Prospective Customer Sees

No one cares about you, your name, your product, or your company.  If you put this info in your headline, you are wasting your time.  People primarily care about one thing only… to meet their current needs or desires.

Better Leads

Better Leads

Do you generate lots of leads but find it extremely time consuming to sort through all of them?

The idea is to find yourself on the phone with leads, then sending e-mails, videos, links and following up again at a later time (otherwise known as “networking”).  Then you follow up again to see if they had been able to finally watch the video you sent.  Follow up again, and again and again…playing the numbers game!

It takes a lot of drive to get back on the phone each day and do the numbers again.

Does this sound like your daily activity?  It sure was for me too…

Then you have to deal with how many of the people you follow up with that sign up with your MLM opportunity.  How many of these are real go getters who actually do something significant and become MLM leaders?

If you feel like you’re wasting time, ask yourself these questions:

1. Are the leads you’re getting genuinely decent and qualified leads?   A good lead is one that has genuine interest in network marketing, and is not just joining your business because you “sold” them on the idea so well they couldn’t help but buy in.

2. Where are you getting your leads from and how many of those are qualified?  In this, I mean are you marketing to the general public who have no knowledge of network marketing and don’t know how to do it?  Or are you marketing to people already in network marketing who are willing and able to do the necessary work?

I get tons of questions from people about why some people do and some don’t make it in network marketing.

So, why do 97% of people who join and MLM fail?  Similarly, what’s the secret to success for the other 3% in this industry?

There are plenty of answers to these questions, but  here are the 6 most common.

1. They treat their business like a part-time hobby.  Even if you are part time, treating your business like a hobby is bound to produce very little.   Network Marketing is a BUSINESS and must be treated as such.  Just like becoming a MD requires education, so does learning to become a skilled network marketer.

2. They don’t believe in what they are doing.  Too often people go into this game “wanting” to create success, yet they don’t fully believe in what they do.  Doubting the business model you have joined is a guaranteed recipe for failure.

3. They lie to themselves.  People often kid themselves into believing they are actually conducting REVENUE PRODUCING ACTIVITIES, yet the reality is that many of them are simply being BUSY.  If you aren’t prospecting and exposing, you really ARE NOT doing network marketing…. it’s only marketing!  You must be on the phone for it to be networking!

4. They place blame everywhere else but on themselves.  People who don’t create commissions quickly point the finger at their sponsor, the company, the products, the tools or any other myriad of choices.  Bottom line:  If people are making money in your company and you aren’t, look in the mirror.  The cool thing is that in the end, YOU get to BLAME YOU for your SUCCESS or your failure.  I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a lot more fun blaming yourself for a big check!

Training people in the MLM industry, I get asked asked this question frequently.

“What’s wrong with what I’m doing?”

I often get emails like the following:

Warren, I’m on the phone at least 10 times a day with no sign ups.  I send them emails with my company’s presentation on them. No one wants to close the deal. Either people tell me they’re not interested when I follow up or I can’t ever get a hold of them again. The majority don’t review the information and keep putting me off. Regardless of how good the meeting or conversation goes, no-one signs up.   I don’t know what my problem is. !

So…. what’s going on here?

The main thing that comes to mind is this:  Are the 10 conversations per day qualified, or are they just targets?

Here’s the reality of the situation…

You’re either approaching cold prospects who have no interest in the MLM industry (and you didn’t ask questions to find that out their qualification) or you’re “attracting” 10 new people a day with your untrained advertising who are already involved in the industry but are not actively looking for what you have.  They may become prospects in the future, but they’re not today.

If you purchase lead lists… good luck!   They’re more likely to be “suspects” at best.

However, if you’ve created a lead funnel like what I help people create at MLM Growth Explosion, or you’re using something like PPC, then you’re getting QUALITY prospects … and 10 leads a day like that might just be the real deal!

What’s needed -beyond desire- to earn major residual income by working in the MLM industry … ?

I USED TO believe that the crucial determining factor of reaching and surpassing a six figure income with an MLM biz depended on one virtue:   desire

When I say “Desire” I mean… How BADLY do you want it?

I have coached my reps to sort their prospects based on desire instead of money.  The idea is to find people for your organization who REALLY WANT IT and willing to do the necessary work to achieve it.

But here’s the thing.

People have different degrees of desire!  There are some who say they want it, but not really badly.  Then there are those who really yearn for and work hard to get it… but failure after failure causes them to become so discouraged they give up.

How many people have you sponsored who “wanted it” – who had desire – but just didn’t want it badly enough?  Maybe they didn’t quit – but when their dis appointment set in for lack of achievement, they might as well have given up.

Do you have your online marketing system yet?

I hope you answered yes.  If you did, are you getting the results you wanted?

A marketing system is something that should simplify your life.  You stay consistent with it, doing your regular daily tasks (a previously planned and executed daily method of advertising) and reap the regular and consistent results that come with your efforts.

The acronym for SYSTEM is this:  Save Your Self Time Energy & Money.  If this acronym does not accurately describe your current system, your system needs work!

I think we all recognize the equation Time=Money.  This is likely the most important reason a marketing system is needed.

You are marketing your MLM to not just anyone….You want to focus your marketing on your target group: other network marketers!  This enables you to make the most of your time. The intention is to put your marketing in front of as many people as you can who area already interested in network marketing opportunities- which is what online marketing allows you to do.

Does your capture page scare people away?  Do you wonder why you have so many visits, but so few sign-ups?

When creating a lead capture page your goal is entice the visitor to take action and capture their name and email. There are several elements to an effective capture page but these 7 are the most essential in my mind since they’ve been helpful in the development of my own lead capture pages.

1. Create a Compelling Headline

The headline is the most important part of your sales letter because it must capture attention instantly and also fuel interest. Headlines should evoke an emotional response by pointing out a significant problem and the solution to that problem.   Without a strong compelling reason to read on, the visitor will leave your web page.

2. Bullet Point Your Benefits

When crafting a lead capture page, another important component would be your bullet points.  The bullets are designed to further drive home what has been brought out in the headline and the body copy of the page.

3. Clear Call To Action

This is what makes the visitors take action. It gives them a quick run down of what they are getting by opting in. One thing to make sure is that the Call To Action is visible at all times.

4. Visible Opt-In Form

This is where you want your visitor to get to. Believe it or not the way you set up your sign up box on your lead capture page is really important. You don’t want to ask your reader to give you too much information in the first shot or you might scare them off. General consensus points to asking for name and email address. Your subscription box code can be found within your autoresponder. By placing this code on your lead capture page the readers that opt in will immediately begin to receive your auto responder messages.

Like it or not, it’s officially the holiday season.  I like to loosely wish people “Merry New-Thanksgiv-o’ween-mas” with a slightly cynical side of “bah-humbug”.

I’ll admit, I’m not much of a fan of what consumerism has done to the last 2 months of the year, but I deal with it and try to ensure that I keep focused on what Christmas is traditionally about.  For me, it’s still about Christ’s birth and spending time with my family.  For all I care, most everything else can stay in the media and stores.

As the holidays approach, it is more important than ever to keep focused on what you’re doing to build your online MLM business.  Too many people get side tracked and their business suffers for it.  If you want to keep your commission checks coming in to pay for your Christmas expenses, here’s some considerations you must take.

1. Pushy sales people!  It doesn’t matter if you’re in a store or online: pushy is still pushy.  At this time of year, everyone is selling something.  For a refreshing change of pace, consider offering to help people buy instead of stuffing your product or service down their throats.

2. The sales pitch from strangers.  This applies to online marketing too.  There is nothing I dislike more than meeting someone online for the first time who immediately pitches their service or product at me.  They don’t know me, or what I need.  This is a fast track to being spammed!

3. Holiday specials. Watch the prices on items you consider buying, because in August, September and October they tend to be lower in cost.  The prices often are inflated this time of year so that the 10% sales price looks like a good deal, when you’re really getting the same price you should have been offered in the first place. Don’t be one of these marketers.  You’ll lose customers in the long run due to your dishonest practices.

Is your online advertising rocking… or rotting?  Are you generating the leads you should be getting for your efforts?

I used to stink at advertising.   I mean, I was spending money, and getting little return on my investment.  Cash seemed to be flying out of my my pockets with little response, and I ended up calling luke-warm prospects who didn’t understand what I was offering.

Quite frankly, I don’t think even I really understood what I was selling.  Worse, I didn’t know how I was supposed to be selling it.

Have you felt that way?  Are you still feeling like that?

Do you think – even have a slight hint – that learning how to market better might help your business?

Most network marketers start their MLM opportunty without knowing how to effectively market. That makes it pretty easy to see why 95% fail.  I was one of them until I learned the marketing tips I’m about to share with you.

Like you, I started in my MLM business with determination and vigor, and absolutely no idea what I was doing.  My ads were similar in content to the majority of ads you see out there.  They looked a lot like this one:

Company XYZ in Pre-Launch!
Ground Floor Huge Opportunity.
Contact me today!

I have dreams that wake me up from deep sleep because of these ads. In the dreams I am still stuck, struggling, suffering, not able to make a dime with my MLM.

Since then I have learned how to write better copy…  how to make a connection with my readers… what words and content can make the simple difference between 2 readers and 2000.
