Headline Essentials: 4 Key Attraction Grabbing Elements You Need to Include
Do your article headlines GRAB attention, or do they whimper helplessly “please take pity and read me”?
According to the news industry, the average headline will inspire only 200 people out of 1000 to read your ad or start reading your article. If your headline is weak, you can cut your readers in half. A strong, exciting headline can double the interest.
Consider that 70-80% of the response is generated in your subject line, so your success is largely dependent of your headline. Even mediocre copy writing skills in your content will get more activity if your headline pulls them in.
You want to include 4 critical elements in your title to grab attention, and inspire action… which is to have the reader read your article. So, you must start with a HUGE BANG!
Within 2-3 seconds your prospects decide whether to read your message or pass by to the next: they scan for items of interest and leave the rest.
Here are four crucial tips for writing your next “knock out” headline for your network marketing business.
1. Your Headline Should Be The First Thing The Prospective Customer Sees
No one cares about you, your name, your product, or your company. If you put this info in your headline, you are wasting your time. People primarily care about one thing only… to meet their current needs or desires.
Your headline must identify their desires, and propose a solution to help them meet those needs.
Anything else in the subject line needs to be moved elsewhere. Put in your text, at the bottom… I don’t care, and neither does your reader. If your headline is inviting enough to get them to read your content, and you convince them to take action they will find your business name, no matter how small.
2. Deliver The Goods With A Strong Punch Line
The “punch line” is the unique and powerful part of your sales message. In figuring out your content, you want to deliver the strongest point of your message and put it in bold lettering at the top of your article, not save the best part of your offer until last. It has to be active!
“Increase your daily lead generation” is a passive topic line. “Quickly learn how to Generate 50 leads a day” is active. Be sure to make your headline active!
3. Use Words Your Prospects are looking for.
You don’t necessarily want everyone to read your content, because not everyone is your potential customer. You’ll likely lose the majority of your best prospects by being cute and veiling your content with vague references. Be direct. Be specific. You are in the business of attracting the people who want what you have to offer today.
If you’re offering information on how to generate more high quality leads, say it: “Get Better Quality Leads”, not “Access Millions Of Leads With XYZ Method”.
Your headline should sort out the buyers. The more focused your headline, and your sales message, the better the response.
4. Your Headline Should Be Direct And To The Point
Try to make your headlines as short as possible, but still long enough to get the point across. Ideally, 10 words or less is good to shoot for. With this in mind, heavily weight the front of your headline with the keywords you’re targeting (helps in SEO also). It’s accepted that the first 4 words get the prospect’s attention. If you need it, attach a sub-headline with more wording in that.
A tip for e-mail subject lines… short and sweet is best! Many e-mail programs cut off longer subject lines. For example, Hotmail cuts off subject lines at 45 characters…spaces included! Again, forward weight , and keep it short.
