Facebook Marketing: 5 Steps To Page Appeal
Admit it, your facebook profile page looks like some 85 year old Amish dude who’s never seen a computer set it up… it sucks! A goat could have done just as well.
It lacks direction and ads little value.
(My apologies to you 85 year old Amish facebook genius types out there who have figured it out… I didn’t mean to offend you or your livestock.)
If you’re using facebook for advertising, you want to be noticed, so a good start is to look around at the pages of your friends and after seeing what they’re doing, my sage-like advice is this…
Do the exact opposite!
Most of them are those are under-educated wanna-be types that missed the class on setting up a decent profile.
If you’re primary purpose in being on facebook is to build your mlm business, please stop plastering your site with farmville, mafia wars, cartoon me, and various other “business useless” aps that take up your valuable time and turn all your messages into spam.
If you want to send spam, buy some at the grocery store, put a bow on it and snail-mail it (it won’t spoil… I promise).
Your intent is to be professional, personable and provide a page that says you know what you’re doing.
Here’s what you should be doing instead of mailing cans of cured, spiced meat:
1. Your profile photo should be decent. If you’re after dirty old men, go ahead and post a sultry picture, but if you wish to create a legitimate business, post a good photo. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a posed professional portrait… just a good picture that depicts who you are. Smiling is obviously better… but you already knew that.
2. You need to add some credibility. If you’ve been to any events for your company, or been to marketing training, inspiration training, coaching seminars… get pictures there with the leaders and post them. Add links to your favorites – people you’re a fan of who ADD VALUE.
You’re trying to create a place where people can get to know you – the person – and get to know you the irresistible business genius that you are.
3. Videos. Most people don’t know they can put videos on facebook, don’t know how, or are afraid to learn. If you have a web cam, you can shoot video directly into facebook and save it there. No editing, no transfering, no creating youtube accounts (although this is a great means of increasing web traffic, and a topic for another day). Put an intro video on your profile page.
Seeking perfection is the highest form of procrastination.
4. Short intro about what you do - a self branding message. I focus on low cost and no cost online advertising methods, and teach people how to do the same. I can get them info on paid advertising, but that’s not my niche or interest right now, so I make sure that I mention – in the box directly below my photo- what it is I do with an invite to my website to connect with me there too.
5. Application boxes. Again, keep them business oriented and professional. Personally I hate getting “hit with a pillow” and other crap. Again, keep it professional!
HTML profile box is a great application… if you know html code. If you don’t know html, use Custom Profile Box. You can add lots of great info about yourself, what you do and so forth. Again, look around at other people’s pages, open their boxes and get ideas for content according to what fits you and your needs.
Your boxes can also have your group or fan page, or those of others you admire and feel are worthy of advertising/linking from your profile. ADD Facebook VALUE with anything you include.
By now you get it… I hope.
You either look good and attract friends with content and value, or you’re a ____ (you fill in the bad word of your choice).
